PV for All in the Greece-Albania Cross-Border Area

Τhe new module on the development of PV systems in the Greece-Albania Cross-border area was installed and operates on the web platform www. in-games. eu of the GAMES Cross-Border Project. The functionality is called "PV for All in the Cross-Border Area of Greece - Albania" and can be found in the relevant section of the platform, "Functionalities". The purpose of the Functionality is to present comprehensively the option of PV systems for energy production, both at a technical and institutional level, as well as application capabilities.

The Functionality has 5 Selections-Fields:

  1. PV philosophy,
  2. institutional framework for PV,
  3. PV market in the EU and the Cross-border area;
  4. use of PV systems and,
  5. PV technological specifications for the Cross-border area

The first Field explains the principle of operation of the photovoltaic cell, presents the available types of PV cells that exist and describes the PV modules. It also includes a sub-selection where the most innovative PV technologies are presented, such as PV systems integrated into buildings, organic PV systems and PV systems installed on floating platforms.

The next Field refers to the institutional framework governing the self-production of energy from PV in the EU, Greece and Albania. It actually presents the mechanism of net metering as it operates in the two cross-border regions including the options of virtual net metering and net metering combined with an energy storage system

The third Field presents the picture of the market in the EU, in Epirus, where data for two PV plants installed and operating there is presented, and finally in Albania, where data is given on the available radiation as well as on the facilities that already exist in the country.

The fourth Field refers to the use of PV systems, initially presents the principle of operation of an autonomous PV system and then describes the application of this system in the agricultural sector, for the electrification of irrigation pumping stations. After the agricultural sector, the application of autonomous PV in residential buildings and finally in facilities of the tertiary sector are presented.

Finally, in the last Field, the technical specifications for an autonomous PV system are presented. The specifications are presented separately for its type of equipment. That is, the PV modules, the power converter systems (inverter), the cable system, the earthing, the external protection and other protection systems, the data recording system and finally the other electrical equipment required.
